As we have come to expect, MRT has lead the way again, with a new Dynapack 4wd "hub" Chassis Dyno. "We have owned a rolling road Dyno for many years and also used several other workshops Dyno's, the limiting thing was always space, noise and inertia." company owner Brett Middleton said. The ability to test cars in our workshop beyond road legal speed limits is also imperative for obvious reasons" he added.

A "Dyno" is a way of measuring a cars torque and power, it also allows tuners to make changes to cars fuel, ignition and boost, etc without concentrating and/or driving on the road, whilst at the same time measuring the changes at the wheels.

With this new Dyno the net cost to clients is approximately half of any other workshop in Sydney because it is more efficient for the Dyno user. Because there are no rollers, the car can be accelerated from load in 4th 5th or 6th gear, there is no need to start in 1st gear and accelerate up the inertia of a set of rollers that wastes time, because with the Dynapack, the only inertia is the drive train of the car, and this is negligible. This relates to huge time savings and $$ savings to clients. Repeat power runs are faster as there is no slowing down of a set of rollers either, before another run can begin.

The Dynapack dyno is unique in that it physically bolts to the cars hubs, in contrast to other Dyno's that have rollers that the cars drive (via their wheels) on. By removing the wheels and connecting directly, there is a significant reduction in noise, (tyres make a lot of noise on rollers), an increase in accuracy, (there is no wheelspin and no change in rolling diameter), power runs are much faster (at least 3 times as fast as a common roller type dyno) hence accuracy is greatly increased that is constant and repeatable.

"Here in our workshop, space is also limited, when we are not using the Dynapack, it is stored in a small place, as its completely portable and we don't lose a car working area" Brett said. "We needed also something that would be highly accurate for product testing". he added

MRT has purchased the 4000 series (4wd) Dyno that will take torque figures up to 1500 ft/lb or 2000 Nm (in 2wd), or 3000ft/lb or 4000 Nm (in 4wd) if a car is used that is higher in output it can be still utilised in a taller gear, but if the units limit is reached the Dynapacks built in safety feature will warn the operator that its reaching overload and allows time to reduce the cars output power.

Dynapack is the chosen dyno by many V8 Super car teams as well as used by car manufactures for OEM testing.

Clients can deliver their car to MRT Performance for testing or tuning by MRT's trained technicians or alternatively clients may wish to rent the dyno and use it themselves.

Bookings for Dyno time can be made by calling the MRT Performance workshop 02 9809 2110 or e-mailing Dyno@MRTrally.com.au
