The BIG
benefit of a turbo timer is to maintain oil pressure supply to the turbo bearings while
the turbo cools down.
If the engine is switched off prematurely, the bearing has no oil and overheats, the fact that other parts also get hot is also a noted point. And for those who think they don't need a turbo timer because they "don't drive hard", try this idea. At night drive the car as you do "normally" , stop where there is no lights, note the time with the engine running, then lift the bonnet and see if the turbine housing has any glow of "red" colour. (NOTE give your eyes time to adjust as its hard to pick at first)
Wait until it
no longer glows and check the time. That's how long you need to wait BEFORE you switch off
the engine.
Try it a few ways based on your driving style and you will soon get an idea of the time needed. Its amazing how many people find they NEED to wait a little longer....
