My first introduction to Subaru's awesome WRX was through the fortunate situation of spending a day with renowned Motoring Journalist, John Cadogan. This lead to a conversation about Cars and Cameras, which in turn led to John describing the WRX as "a weapon". I still haven't bought the camera but I now have two Subarus, an MY99 WRX sedan and a 2002 STi.

Being new to the Subaru, the AWD and the turbo scenes at the time, I was keen to learn as much as I could about these cars because I hadn't driven anything quite as exciting previously. This led to me joining the Queensland WRX club of which I have been a member for almost 3 1/2 years, and am now the club president. About a year after I joined the club the original Training WRX book came out, and proved to be an invaluable source of information relating to all aspects of this great car and a regular reference guide.

With second edition of Training WRX coming out about 2 1/2 years later, it is a more refined product, a bit like the New Age Impreza, I guess. Over the period of time that has elapsed between the publishing of these books, a lot has happened. There is a far greater variety of products, brands, shops, tuners, e-mail lists, websites, etc available to the WRX communities nationally and internationally.

Apart from being a comprehensive source of everything WRX, this book allows the enthusiast to explore the options available, regardless of whether it is optimising suspension, brakes, intake, exhaust, engine management, turbo or you just want to know a bit more about the various components that go towards making this such a capable car.

Rather than buying something for your WRX on impulse or being pressured into buying something from an "in your face" Auto Shop, take the time to research your options through the chapters of this book, through your local WRX Club and the many relevant e-mail forums. There are many people out there with a great deal of WRX experience, so use the resources available to maximise the success of your decisions.

Whether you are a newbie to the WRX scene like I was a few years ago, or a hardened variety from the early days, I am confident that this book will provide you with many of the answers to your questions, reinforce correct information from a fellow enthusiast or tuning shop and give you some great ideas for optimising your WRX to suit your requirements and budget.
