MRT Crew Brett Middleton and Andrew Benefield are looking forward to the next Round of the ARC; Falken rally Qld. Run this coming weekend, the Sydney based crew now have some reasonable Km behind them in their Championship winning Subaru WRX.
"Its been a steep learning curve" said Brett,
"its been harder than I expected" he added
A series of small incidents that have blemished some strong stage times; from
bent suspension, flat tyres, to driver indecision in set-up, they have had it
all. Falken Rally Qld is time for the team to set a positive result, whilst
history does not reflect well!
"We have had a series of problems in the past at the
creek crossings in QLD , that have resulted in DNF's for us" Andrew said.
(The MRT crew have ripped off Sum guards more than once, causing major damage to
their F2 car.)
Traditional opposition, for the Privateers cup, Dean Herridge, Ross Mackenzie and Spencer Lowndes will not be present, allowing the team a good opportunity to score some valuable points. Whilst Stewart Reid and Michelle Murphy will debut a new Lancer after their horrific Accident in last years Saxon Safari Rally Tasmania, their presence will be unknown, but expect a strong position from this crew.
"We are still getting a few bugs out of the car, with its increased power and its Group A modifications, the team has again put in some late nights as well as the boys from the MRT Performance workshop have made every effort to ensure the car is 100% reliable" Brett said. Together with Citybank Ready Credit, Sanyo, Falken and Strathfield we would not be at the event" he added.
The team has made their job a little tougher as well, they
travel South immediately after Falken rally Qld , to the NSW South coast farming
town of Bega for the next Rd of the SGI NSW State Rally Championship. Two events
in two weeks is a lot of work with the high specification of rally cars these
days, however this area is well known for its premier rally roads some of the
best in Australia. "We just could not miss this event, last year we had a
clutch fail, this year we will win!" Andrew said.
Falken rally qld starts from the Sunshine coast town of Caloundra Friday evening with cars and crews on display in the main street between 4 pm and 8 pm. The cars travel Nth to Imbil where the rally action begins on Saturday and Sunday, added to this is the now traditional Noosa (bitumen) hill climb, this year on rally tyres, Saturday night!!!
