Repairs Well Underway

The car will be back from premier panel beating Wednesday 23rd June, this will leave us 6 working days to assemble all the mechanical drive line as well as the front bumper, lamps and guards plus all the usual rally preparation like spanner check the car, wheel alignment, (some new trick settings to try!) and reassemble the brakes.

We rebuild the brake calipers every event, the front calipers have a habit of breaking the dust boots whilst the rear pistons pick up rubbish on the slide internal part, and if left for too long causes the piston to seize (this is in the 2 spot fixed calliper only).

As you can see by the pics the car had a VERY big hit, as a basic list here is what was damaged and has been replaced!

Front gearbox housing was cracked
LH block gearbox dowel was smashed off
all the cam covers as well as cam belt, alt and power steer, pullies and water pump.
the gearbox need all new bearing as well was fully crack tested.
The steering rack was bent, thanks to the boys at Ryde steering they repaired the rack and we got it crack tested as a precaution.
RH alloy control arm as well as sway bar link and Anti lift kit bush.

The tail shaft centre bearing captive nut was torn out of the floor!
The sump guard and mount was bent badly
Plus the obvious, grille LH RH headlamps, bumper, thermo fans and radiator (like a pancake!)

Thanks to the boys at Joviant performance for doing a deal on a ECU and saving us a heap on some of these parts!

The LH chassis rail was bent quite badly due to the way it was attached to the sump guard mount it bent it down and back, this is the same side I bent at Wyong State rally and Cody bent at Coffs harbour in 1999, so its definitely got a wood magnet in there somewhere!

The boys at MRT performance and the rally team have already put in a huge effort to be even half a chance to get to Coffs harbour, Shane has and will be working some long hours to BOTH rebuild the Diff, gearbox AND part of the engine!

We were VERY luck with the engine, the LH front cam bearing cap was only bent and not broken that has the cam sensor on it, if it was broken these are not available as a part and we would have had to replace the WHOLE head!!!

We will change some signage and colours to fine tune the image when we fit the new alloy bonnet, fingers crossed we make it to Coffs, I am really looking forward to our "home" event now as we all become a little more 'at home' with' the car....
