THE "BAY"
The trip south about 4 hrs from Sydney is an easy one these days, all Freeway to just South of Wollongong then highway from there along the coast.
The event is special to me as it was here that I chose to make my second ever rally in my trusty Datsun 1600, complete with 2000cc engine. this car later became turbo charged and we progressed thru many diffs, gearbox's, chassis's (yeah a few rolls!) etc.
I still visit a famous (to me) corner that still exists, that one year I hit a tree and the next in the opposite direction I hit a stump!
The roads are often in very good condition and not far from town, these days the service crews don't even leave town and all servicing is done in the car park beside the river.... I like the roads as they are often very grippy, with a hard packed layer of clay this suits the power of the Impreza and is easy to set consistent times, BUT the roads are often tricky to read, many blind corners can catch the unwary.
As this event is not pace noted crews have to be on the ball to not assume direction changes. Its also a relaxed event, the local's get right behind the event and many crews are simply friends from Sydney, everyone knows each other. No interstate travel of air flights for this event, is a relaxed ARC type event to us!
We have arranged to get all the Impreza's to service together so we can have some fun, and show those Mitsubishi boys who's boss! The rally starts at 12 pm and we are car 1 however the first 5 (I think) cars are balloted so we will still carry car 1 but maybe car 5 on the road. There are 84 entries.
