New Co Driver for the coming Saxon Safari
MRT driver Brett Middleton has announced a new Co Driver for the coming Saxon Safari ARC event. ACT resident Lyndal Drake will fill the position left vacant by regular Co Driver Andrew Benefield. "Lyndal has co driven for many top teams in the past and has a wealth of experience so will fit in well with the team; the Tassie event will be a good one to test her expertise!" Brett said.
Benefield has some hefty work commitments with his senior position at Caltex Australia for the Olympics and as this is a rare opportunity for him to be so closely involved in such a prestigious event, the team decided he should stay at home.
Middleton took the opportunity to mention that the ludicrous date change of the Saxon sponsored event has played havoc with many teams including MRT.
"We are short three crucial team members because of the date change, I cant expect people to scrap Olympic tickets, some worth over thousands of dollars." I personally will miss three Olympic gold medal events because of this, I cant think of any other major sporting event that has chosen to move into the Olympic period." he added.
MRT seriously considered deleting the event off their schedule, however sponsor commitments negated this. "I am doubtful of much PR to be gained from the event on the day so we wont be investing much effort, but hopefully the channel 10 coverage will run after the post Olympic news" Brett said
The Saxon Safari starts in Hobart over the weekend of the closing ceremony of the Olympic games
