Team News from MRT

"MRT's Caribbean Cruise"

Sydney based rally team MRT, will represent Australia in the "ESSO / JMC International Rally next Month, in their Subaru Impreza STi.

To be run over 3 days in Jamaica.

Fresh from the final round of the Australian Rally Championship, Sydney based team MRT, have less than one week to pack their whole rally "kit" into a 40 foot container; Rally car, 50 Falken tyres, 20 rims, and a heap of spare parts. We have to take everything, as we are not sure exactly what we will need when we get there!" Brett said

I had to have a close look at an Atlas to remind myself where Jamaica exactly is" he said. "The Ship goes via the Panama Canal and takes over a month just to get there!" Brett added. We wont get it back until February 2001!

Brett has quietly been working on this for several months, no one knew until the final arrangements were settled prior to The Saxon Safari in Tasmania last week. "I thought it had all fallen through as we could not find a ship to meet the deadlines and air cargo was too expensive" he said. I arrived back from (Snowy) Tasmania and read my e-mail to find Keith had found a Ship that will meet our needs, I cant wait to give the car a run in another country, its gets better every event"

To be run over the weekend of the 1st to 3rd of December, the ESSO / JMC Rally is a "blind" event, meaning no pace notes will be allowed and crews get limited information of where the roads will go. Total rally distance is approximately 500 km with the bulk of the special stages held on the Saturday and Sunday. Friday will have a super special stage whilst Sunday will have a bitumen stage in the Jamaican Capital of Kingston.

"I personally prefer blind rallies and in this case it will make our task a little easier as we don't have to do the pace notes from scratch, however there are some competitive Jamaican crews and their local knowledge will make them hard to beat" he added.

Rally Director Keith Tennant stated "We wanted a team that would add to the high profile of the event in the region and as MRT is well known in Australia plus on the internet, we made an offer and they accepted". Incredibly all the plans were set in stone via e-mails between Brett and Keith, with the two only having Telephone conversation in the recent week.

Currently the team is making the awkward decision of where to stay after the event in the Caribbean.!

Anyone interested in helping with the rally?!
