Propecia Rally New Zealand 2001
World Rally Championship event
The plans for MRT's
entry for the World rally Championship event in New Zealand are well underway.
The car leaves for New Zealand (this) Monday the 3rd of September and arrives in
Auckland on the 13th. The team arrives on the 15th and by then (hopefully) the
car will have cleared customs and be ready for final preparation. As I type the
car is having a wheel alignment and was begun its running in km's last nite and
the prior evening. Final tuning and "turning up the grunt" will happen
in Auckland when we meet with local people who are involved with us and when we
have more time! The hard work by the team and most importantly, Shane (MRTP head
mechanic), Tony (MRTP mechanic) with many late nights!, aided also by Steve,
Dylan, Andrew, Jason, and a heap of other volunteers has made this trip
possible. Not forgetting the loyal partners of MRT, and the boys at Premier
Panel Beating, Keith (owner), Nick (painter), Graham and Shaun who fixed all my
errors got it back in tip top shape, very fast!
The car will travel to NZ by ANZDL and back, as roll on roll off so we have our own service truck. For our over seas friends the trip to NZ is about 5 hours by plane, almost directly East of Sydney. The time zone is only 2 hours earlier and we even speak the same language, something our European colleagues find hard to believe , when then can travel less than an hour and have to speak possibly 2 or more languages!

Our main aim for the event is to finish and have fun, the battle of the first "Aussie" will be hard fought, with five entries and one is a WRC entry with Toshi Arai (Japan) and Glenn MaCneal (AUS) 18, the second a factory entry of the blisteringly fast Cody Crocker and Greg Foletta27 grp N, (whom are at present competing in the final ARC event in Melbourne) third a semi works entry of Dean Herridge and Jim Carlton in a Subaru Japan GD Sti RA38 Grp N, then MRT at car 47 followed by Jason Gardner and Paul Flintoff in a pulsar GTiR 61 grp A and lastly David Langford-smith and Stewart Roberts in a WRX group N
The New Zealand event is best noted for its excellent roads and friendly locals, and thousands of sheep! Last yeah Brett and Andrew spectated, this year we look forward to the many Aussies who travel over to the event to spectate.
for the latest ARC (Aus) event to see who will win group N and if Possum wins another drivers Championship log onto www.rally.com.au now. Friday is recce, Sat and Sun is heat one and two
