17th February 2002.
Since our last update more exciting changes have taken place with the team.
On
Monday we spent several hours with John Smailes (reporter for TV Channel ten)
and his camera guys doing an interview, filming us dyno-ing the car, and
discussing our chances in this years ARC.
It was hard to believe that we have a serious chance this year at more
outright results, but based on his questioning it seems we are the privateer
team that may just upset some of the factory crews!
We don't want to count our chickens until they hatch so I was very non-committal
to our expectations, after all our aim is to have fun and promote our
advertising partners.
Speaking of which we have renewed our relationship with many of them so
please take the time to visit them and see what they can do to assist you. I
know one in particular (Go Fast Bits) will; certainly interest many readers with
their alloy pulley kits and great Blow Off valves.

Regarding
the dyno news that I said we would give feedback on the results were
interesting!
We tested two types of ELF fuel and have had great results so far, guided by
Arthur Calaris (respected authority on ELF tuning and originally an employee of
Haltech here in Sydney) and tuned by MRT performance Link ECU technician Paul
Fisher, the power and torque figures went up and up as we pumped in more
ignition advance and loaded up the boost! For more info on the ecu we used for
this car click here http://www.mrtrally.com.au/performance/ecu.htm
In the end we had to stick with ELF "ATU" as the Euro 102 that we initially tested was better but there is not enough supply for the coming events and we need to be sure we can get what we need because without it we simply can't drive the car. It will not run on Premium unleaded and we are not allowed to run Avgas anymore on the road.

For specifications on ELF products here is the (Oz) web site http://www.elfracing.com/products.htm I wont go into exact detail of the power we got but the dyno graph should show enough for you! I have deleted the exact power figures for obvious reasons!
One
thing we found interesting that was confirmed by Tony Hatton of ELF was one fuel
is more consistent whilst the other has more power but is more susceptible to
heat but it also allows more ignition advance. So with both fuels there are
benefits and disadvantages, the overall result for both was incredible and to
those road car clients that read this, you should consider this fuel for a track
day event if you have the time to pre tune the car to suit its advantages!
It certainly would be cheap power for this type of use, yes when compared to normal fuel it seems costly, but there are few options that result in this type of power for cars that are already close to the limit.
The next step we plan is to test some proper water injection, as we have said in the past MRT P is now the Australian distributor for Aquamist, the exact same system used by the World Rally Teams in their WRC's. With this advanced type of system the ignition map can run even more, and as an added bonus the inlet temp is much less. For more info refer here www.aquamist.co.uk
However
as yet we are not 100% sure if this is legal for PRC or Group A, (unless
homologated) we plan to send a proposal to ARCOM as this is a legitimate way to
solve many teams fuel problems without having to rebuild engines.
Anyway enough for now, the event is only 5 weeks away and we still have a few new things (and ideas) to complete..
