October 3rd 2002 - Propecia Rally of New Zealand - Preliminary
The international travels of MRT continue!
Propecia Rally of New Zealand will be held this coming weekend and the crew of
Brett Middleton and Andrew Benefield will start as car number 128.
A total of
approximately 80 crews will start the event.
The car numbers for this event do not recognise actual seeded entry as the under
100 numbers are pre allocated to registered crews of the WRC.
MRT will run their Citibank Ready Credit Subaru Impreza WRX Group A in a heavy
field of WRC cars and Group N cars. The teams transporter and rally car were
shipped over to NZ with the assistance of ANZDL as roll on roll off, this was
the same as last year and the convenience of having the teams main 'kit' makes
it easier for the service people.
"We went testing last Sunday (here in NZ) and did approximately 100 Kms, this
allowed us to do some more engine and Suspension tuning." Brett said
The car runs DMS 60 mm and this allows the crew to fine tune the shock settings
to the conditions, additionally MRT tested Falken tyres, having been here last
year they had better knowledge of what to bring and this helped immensely.
3 days followed of pre event reconnaissance, this was initially in heavy rain
and severe winds, the roads in NZ don't suffer much from the weather and by days
end some roads were dusty!
The roads are just as incredible as last year, a feature of this event, the
course finds simply the best and crews rave about them. MRT have taken some mpeg
images of the recce this year and this will be shortly loaded to the teams web
site, it also incudes in car pace notes by Andrew!
"last year we missed a finish by 60km transport, we intend to show new team
partners "Proform Octane Boost" that we can secure some great pr for the launch
of they product here in NZ" Brett added
