MRT off to a strong start in the 2003 Premier State Rally

After posting 15th and 16th fastest times in stages 1 & 2, Brett & Andrew are now placed 14th heading into tomorrow's full day of rallying.  "It was unfortunate that we did not get to run the initially proposed dirt stage at Easter Creek due to heavy rains during the week making the course too treacherous" Brett commented after the opening stages.

Thousands of keen spectators braved a particularly chilly night to watch the best that Australian Rallying has to offer.  Subaru factory driver Cody Crocker blew his gearbox when he accidentally selected 1st gear instead of 3rd heading up the straight towards the end of the first stage.  His crew swapped gearboxes in an impressive 14 minutes to ensure he started the 2nd stage, only half an hour later.

The first casualty of the skid pan hay bales was the Sydney crew of Steve Burke and John Moore in their big HP, MRT tuned, Silvia.  Steve miscued the corner and drove straight into the hay, sending all of it flying.  John was later quoted as "I told him (Steve) to drive around them (the hay bales)"

Here are a couple of QuickTime movies of MRT's run through stage 1 and stage 2

The Rally proper starts tomorrow (Saturday) morning at 10am.  For details go to the official rally site
